John Quincy Adams was the sixth president of the United States and the first to be photographed. Adams was born in 1767 and served as president from 1825 to 1829. He was the son of John Adams, the second president of the United States. During his time in office, Adams was known for his opposition to slavery and his efforts to modernize the American economy.
Adams was photographed by John Plumbe Jr. in 1843, more than a decade after he left office.
