The Galliard: Renaissance Dance

This is the performance video of my love and I performing the galliard. We practiced so hard to learn this dance and I am very proud of us.

Galliard means "lively" in French and it is a very fast and athletic 16th century Europeans dance primary performed at the monarchs court. There are many variations of the galliard step, in this performance we show off a few. This dance originated in Italy in the 15th century and reached its height in popularity between 1530 and 1620 in France, Spain and England. Queen Elizabeth I is said to have done the galliard steps every morning for her exercise routine.

This dance would be performed right after the very slow and stately pavane (which we danced just prior to this video) You can view it on my channel as well.

This video is from a performance of Atlanta Historic Dance and Lauda Musicam of Atlanta. In this collaborative concert Lauda Musicam performed early dance music as Atlanta Historic Dane performed.
