Description

Prayers of the Community, St. Paul’s & St. Matthew’s, Brooklyn
The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost, August 10th A+D 2025

Leader: Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. (brief silence)

Almighty God, increase our faith according to Your gracious will. Preserve us from reliance on our own plans and natural powers, that we would ever trust in You and be counted righteous in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Holy Father, You promised great and abundant blessings to Abraham, which he believed by faith. You made Abraham and Sarah Your people, and You gave them a part in Your work of salvation. Bless the hearts of Christian parents and guardians, that, trusting You, we may be instruments of salvation within our homes -- for the good even of generations yet unseen. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord God, heavenly Father, we thank You that You have clothed us with Your mercy and delivered us from our sins. Pour out Your blessing upon the proclamation of Your Word, that many more may be brought into Your Kingdom. Fill with Your Holy Spirit our overseers, Matthew and Dien, and the pastors of our District, that they may proclaim Your Word powerfully and with integrity. Bless those who are being called to Your service and those preparing for church-work vocations, that many more workers may be sent out into Your harvest fields. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

O Lord, we pray for those whom You have placed in positions of authority in our world. Make our President, Congress, and appointed and elected leaders wise and move the hearts of these men and women to seek justice and show mercy, especially to the oppressed and those least able to defend themselves. We bring before You in prayer, Father, the millions of people who lack food, housing, and medical care in Syria, Congo, Gaza, Haiti, Ukraine, Somalia, Kenya, and Yemen; bring a just peace to these nations, and give them growing illumination in the Light of Christ. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Merciful God, “faith is the assurance of things hoped for.” (Heb. 11:1) Through the faith You pour into our hearts, help us to intercede for those who have requested our prayers, for those who are suffering and the people who need Your provision and discernment. We lift up to You:

o Esther and Pastor Eli, for joy and for growing trust in You, as they prepare for their wedding day;
o Sister Mary, as she & her family mourn the death of her brother, James, in the hope of the resurrection;

o Deacon Vernon and Sister Phillis, Shirley, Deacon Deo & Deacon Basmatie, Melissa, David, and those who are traveling;

o We pray for Eunice, Norma, Gloria and the homebound;

o For the people of God at Good Shepherd and at St. John the Evangelist and for all of the Brothers and Sisters of our Circuit;

o And according to their need, we pray for Deacon Linda, Betty, Beatrice, Emeka, Robert, Marlus, Virginia, Seth, Bernadette, Lorna, Veronica & Lucille, Jessica & Greg and their family, Dolores, Pastor Sam, Pastor David, Jude, the Jackson family, Athena, Deacon Chandramah, Raymond, Carlton, Pam, Mary Hardy, and those we lift up now to You in our hearts, or aloud: [ ______ ] . Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Grant us, O Lord, a steadfast faith in Jesus Christ and a sincere love for You and our neighbors. Although we are not worthy of Your benefits, accept our sacrifice of thanks, together with the offerings that we return to You in faith, that we would not be fruitless or ungrateful but magnify Your grace. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord God, heavenly Father, we are “strangers and exiles on the earth.” Make us to walk faithfully with You unto death, that, with all of Your people, we may be led to “a better country,” our heavenly home. (Hebrews 11:13-16) We pray through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
