Description
The Poor People of Paris (La Goualante du Pauvre Jean) - (Marguerite Monnot - Jack Lawrence) (1954)
Recording: c.1956 in Malden, Missouri
Joe Rodriguez Valles (1922 - 1982) was born in Ft. Bayard, New Mexico. He was an award-winning sculptor, a painter in oils, a jazz guitarist and a US Air Force Major.
He served in WWII in B-24's in the Aleutians, flew B-47's during the Cold War as a Strategic Air Command Aircraft Commander, and piloted C-124 missions in and out of Vietnam. He developed his own unique guitar style that was sensitive, thoughtful and inventive, influenced by 1920's and 30's popular music. He died in Decatur, Georgia in 1982.
These recorded works are performed on either a 1952 Silvertone Harmony or a 1952 Gibson Les Paul.
This recording was digitized using a Behringer UFO202 and remixed by Joseph Edward Valles from the original reel-to-reel tape, now in the possession of Joe Valles's nephew, Henry Turréy, Jr.
The photo is of Sgt Joe R. Valles in early 1943 in New Mexico, prior to being shipped out to the Aleutians with the 21st Bombardment Squadron of the 11th Air Force.
