"Dead & Gone" by T.I., Justin Timberlake lyrics, from the album "Paper Trail". In “Dead and Gone,” T.I. addresses a lot about his past and his child hood, having done some crazy things that he believe’s he should never do again. That said, T.I. mentions that although he wouldn’t be caught doing the same things again, he, however, does not regret doing those things in his past, and believes that childish antics and pass-times are meant for children, whereas he is now an adult with a family and so much more to lose.

In the song, T.I. also deals with the death of his best friend and former bodyguard, Philant Johnson, who was killed on May 3, 2006, when T.I.'s crew was caught up in a shooting after a show in Cincinnati that left three injured and Johnson dead. 

Co-producer Rob Knox spoke to HipHopDX.com about the creation of the song: "We were like, this guy's going through a lot with his whole court case situation and his best friend dyin', and everything in the world kind of crumbling in front of him in a way. We [agreed that] it would be real cool and unexpected to give people something a little more heartfelt - not the club, party, typical record that everybody wanted. We even had a feeling that T.I. was gonna mention that, but we already had a plan for him."

On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Billboard sub-chart it also reached number two. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks and the Hot 100 Airplay chart on the week of March 14, 2009. It also peaked at number nine on the Billboard Pop 100 Airplay chart and number three on the Billboard Pop 100 chart. It was the 10th best-selling digital single of 2009 in the United States.

T.I. and Timberlake performed this song at the 51st Grammy Awards. The song was later nominated twice at the 52nd Grammy Awards, for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Song. It was the 10th bestselling digital single of 2009 in the United States.

Timberlake joins T.I. in the Chris Robinson-directed music video, much of which was shot on a road in Lancaster, California. The clip begins with a Bible verse from 1 Corinthians 13:11 as the rapper pledges to leave his old ways behind him ("But when I became a man, I put childish things away") to honor his late friend. He even wears Big Phil's dog tags and includes shots of his friend's tombstone. As for Timberlake, he just wanted to bring his own piano, which meant shutting down a country road to get it on location.

En la subclasificación Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Billboard también alcanzó el número dos. La canción alcanzó el número uno en la lista Billboard Hot Rap Tracks y en la lista Hot 100 Airplay en la semana del 14 de marzo de 2009. También alcanzó el número nueve en la lista Billboard Pop 100 Airplay y el número tres en la lista Billboard Pop 100. Fue el décimo sencillo digital más vendido de 2009 en Estados Unidos.

T.I. y Timberlake interpretaron esta canción en la 51ª edición de los premios Grammy. Más tarde, la canción fue nominada dos veces en la 52ª edición de los premios Grammy, a la mejor colaboración rap/cantada y a la mejor canción rap. Fue el décimo sencillo digital más vendido de 2009 en Estados Unidos.
