As part of my next album, Fleurie is here to usher in the coming of Spring. Fleurie is French for "flowering" or "blooming." My mother used to love the abundance of orange day lillies that grew on our farm in Nebraska. On a recent visit in the height of summer, the lillies were still growing in the same places. Though she's gone, the things she loved continue to grow.

I have been writing some of the music of Niobrara (my next album) on my Yamaha piano, which has a softer quality than my studio upright. Recorded in my living room, which tends to produce more of a natural sound, I then tracked three string players in the same space back in January. The finished sound was effortless. Camille's violin is the unsung hero - an instrument from the early 1700s.

Pastoral is another song I chose to release with Fleurie - it's also available anywhere you listen to music. Pastoral is the essence of Fleurie, but without all of the high frequencies. It put me to sleep as I finished it on a flight a few days ago...I hope it does the same for you. It reminds me of what I was trying to do in "Debris."
