Description
Here's another Hoagy Carmichael song I've always loved: Two Sleepy People. He wrote the music for this one and the great Frank Loesser wrote the words.
The song "Thanks for the Memory", written for the February 1938 film The Big Broadcast of 1938 and performed by Bob Hope and Shirley Ross had proved very popular. Carmichael and Loesser were asked to write a new song for a follow-up film titled Thanks for the Memory. They came up with "Two Sleepy People" which was again sung by Hope and Ross. The song was an immediate hit with the version by Fats Waller being the most popular.
I'm continuing to work on learning to accompany myself singing, which really uses some brain cells. There is so much to think about just singing. Combining that with everything you have to consider in terms of piano technique, the arrangement (I play off lead sheets usually), and so on is really challenging for me - but I feel like I'm making progress.
Hope you enjoy it!
