Description
Pixinguinha was one of the most important composers of popular Brazilian music, besides also being a flute player, saxophonist, singer, and conductor. He is one of the biggest figures of "choro", a Brazilian genre of urban popular music originated in the 19th century in Rio de Janeiro.
"Um a Zero" is a choro recorded for the first time in 1946, and it is the first registered Brazilian composition that celebrates soccer and its players. This choro was composed as a tribute to the Brazilian soccer team that won the 1919 South American championship in a match with Uruguay with the result of 1-0 in favour of Brazil (here the reason of the title).
In this video, as a part of my project about Latin American music for flute, I share with you "Um a Zero" arranged for 3 flutes and pandeiro. I hope you enjoy it!
