Description

Carl Boberg, a Swedish poet and lay clergyman, is credited as the original author of "How Great Thou Art," who also authored the poem "O Store Gud" (also known as "O Great God") in 1885. He was moved by a thunderstorm and a calm evening he saw close to his house. Later, the poem was translated into other languages and set to a Swedish folk tune. The hymn's two additional verses were also added by British missionary **Stuart K. Hine** in 1949, who also translated the English version that is currently used. Particularly among evangelical Christians, the hymn has grown to become one of the most well-known and cherished hymns of all time.
