Cleo Laine, born Clementine Dinah Bullock on October 28, 1927, in Southall, Middlesex, England, is a legendary British jazz and pop singer renowned for her extraordinary vocal range and versatility. Often referred to as "The Queen of Jazz," Laine's career spans over seven decades, during which she has captivated audiences with her unique ability to seamlessly transition between jazz, pop, and classical music. She began her career in the 1950s and rose to prominence through her collaborations with her husband, the acclaimed jazz musician and bandleader John Dankworth.

She is also celebrated for her work on Broadway and the West End, earning a Tony Award nomination for her role in "The Mystery of Edwin Drood." Laine's contributions to music have been recognized with numerous accolades, including Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance in 1986, a US Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991, and Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1997, making her one of the most respected and enduring figures in the world of jazz and beyond.
