Description
Preorder the new album (and help me release it !) - https://waagal.bandcamp.com/album/echoes-from-the-past
"Soytós" is an experiment of what could be a prehistoric music transposed to modern day. It features a prehistoric instrument called Rhombus/Bullroarer and the lyrics are based on some kind of a recitative formula using Proto Indo European words (for lack of an prehistoric language !) for natural elements, chanted like an incantation.
I also use breathing/throatsinging rhythmic patterns that are similar to Inuk/Inuit throatsinging, again aiming for what could have been sung in paleolithic/mesolithic era.
It is of course an artistic interpretation and does not reconstruct accurately nor represent what the music of these era was (we actually don't know much about it !)
I choose to use Proto Indo European language because it is one of the oldest reconstructed language that we have, though the time period is very different from Paleolithic and is closer to Neolithic actually.
Proto-Indo-European is a hypothetical language considered to be the unique origin of today's Indo-European languages. Linguists have partially reconstructed this possible protolanguage on the basis of similarities between languages that have often disappeared but are real and known, and partially on the basis of well-identified transformation patterns, particularly phonological ones.
Most linguistic and archaeological models place it roughly between 4500 – 2500 BC.
This song is featured in my new album "Echoes from the Past" planned for October 2025.You can help me finance the production of Vinyl/CD by preorder it here: https://waagal.bandcamp.com/album/echoes-from-the-past
Disclaimer: throatsinging is not attested in Proto Indo European culture and therefore it does not represent it. It is just my personnal way of singing.Same with my facepainting and feathers: my art is rooted in prehistoric/paleolithic influences and these attributes are common to all humans worldwide. I don't wish to represent any particular culture but the legacy of all humans, we're all related somehow through prehistoric tribes.
