With the release of We're A Winner in early 1968, Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions became the leading voices for social change in America. Even though People Get Ready and Keep On Pushing had been released in '64 and '65, by the time 1968 rolled around, Mayfield was writing message songs as his number one priority. That would continue into the 70's as well. We're A Winner hit #1 week of 3/9/68.
