Description
"When I Hear Music" is a song co-written by American songwriter/producer Tony Butler and freestyle singer Debbie Deb.
Deborah Claire Wesoff-Kowalski, better known as Debbie Deb (born March 10, 1966 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American singer, best known for 1980s freestyle dance songs such as this one and also "Lookout Weekend".
Released as her debut single on March 13, 1983, this song did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100, but it was a hit in dance clubs and had major airplay.
It reached number 43 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The song still receives airplay on major radio stations in the United States.
A slight saturating distortion can be heard on the bass, perhaps due to the use of analog sources at the studio during recording.
The song once appeared in a 2007 episode of Bones, and reggaetón artist Voltio includes a sample of the song in his 2008 song, "Pónmela". A lengthy cut of the song can be heard in the Pónmela music video during the song's break.
