Description
W/G 7302 (1973)
The follow up to New Life (elsewhere on this channel,) this album is a little more adventurous than either what came before or after. It opens with percussion in "A Voice Cries Out in the Wilderness," which is very unusual for Word of God productions (unless you're talking about the orchestral one, of course.) It also includes some light orchestration in the title track, which went away in the subsequent "All of Your People" but came back with a vengeance in the entirely orchestrated "Praises for the King." (Both of these albums are also on the channel.)
Other memorable songs include Donald Fishel's "The Light of Christ" (Fishel was one of the community's most proficient musicians and composers) and some NALR classics such as the title track and Carey Landry's "Litany."
It also featured something else that's rare even for the era: singing in the Spirit. (Rare but not alone: the English group Achor would do this two years later on their first album.) Overall a nice representation of a worship style that needs to be reassessed in view of what's come after.
