Description

What is music? This is a question that can be answered in so many different ways. It has an anthropological answer, a musicological answer, a psychological answer and so many perspectives, the study of which could be worth a whole lifetime of cold, complex research! However, it is even more difficult to condense this answer into very few words and yet convey the depth of it.
Kumarji however, does this very job in his bandish in Raga Kamodvanti, trying to describe the very genesis of music and its important concepts. This shows Kumarji's prowess as a lyricist and as a composer, as he decided to compose it in Kamodvanti, which is a beautiful combination of Jaijaiwanti and Kamod, two distinct ragas that when blended create a serene and vibrant atmosphere.
